What is StockXloader, and what can it do for you?
- StockXloader is a Mac OS X application for fully automated downloading of stock market quotes and indexes to the technical analysis program ProTA or ProTA Gold from BeeSoft (http://beesoft.net) — effectively building an arbitrarily large database of tickers (symbols) containing historical quotes for the open/high/low/close of each day!
- It collects quotes from Yahoo! Finance for almost any stock exchange in the world.
- The downloaded information is automatically imported into the database of ProTA. In the process, it informs ProTA which tickers are stocks, which are mutual funds, and which are indexes so that any new ticker is put into the right category by ProTA.
And best of all: You can try out a full and completely uncrippled version of StockXloader for evaluation up to 60 days — completely free of charge! Try before you buy!
Download StockXloader Now!
It downloads as a "dmg" image file, about 1 MB.
Note: If you only run Classic ProTA, you should start with
the older version StockXloader 3.2

The price, €59, is not more than what the commission would be for a few trades!
Compare that with some of the annual subscription services on offer — and many of them do not even work with Mac OS!
Note that share-it! is the reseller of StockXloader, so they will handle all transactions. For payment options, see their customer service at http://ccc.shareit.com/ccc/. They offer several currencies, but their conversion rates usually make it best to pay in Euro.

What's new?
- See list of changes.
- Summary for 3.4.x: Version 3.4.5 fixes a problem in Tiger (caused by a change in 3.4.4) that prevented downloads if this was the first time StockXloader was used. Also, a new menu item and shortcut that does the same as clicking the Download button. Version 3.4.4 fixes a performance problem that could result in timeout (caused by a change in 3.4.3). Version 3.4.3 adapts to a small change at Yahoo that caused an extra linefeed on import (for current day quotes), and it also has a couple of other small changes. Version 3.4.2 parses the ticker list more strictly to avoid user errors, and it takes stronger measures against some system related errors. Version 3.4.1 fixed a Unicode issue on Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4) which caused problems on import to ProTA. Version 3.4 provides compatibility with "Leopard" (Mac OS X version 10.5) and is now a universal binary (i.e native code for both Intel and PowerPC processors).
Don't have ProTA?
If you don't have ProTA, you may want to first try out the combination of ProTA and StockXloader before you consider any purchase. Yes, you can do that! First, download and install ProTA (http://beesoft.net); it will run in Trial Mode without a license key, then download and install StockXloader. Run StockXloader, which will work with ProTA up until the control is handed over to ProTA; when ProTA is supposed to create new ticker files, it won't do that of course, since that is precisely the limitation of ProTA when it is in Trial Mode, but it will nevertheless clearly show how these programs operate in your environment.
Mac OS X or Classic?
Although StockXloader should still work with the Classic version of ProTA, we expect new users of StockXloader to use the OS X version of ProTA, and the documentation for StockXloader 3.4 no longer includes information about working with the Classic version. If you are new to StockXloader and work with the Classic version of ProTA, use the installer for version 3.2 of StockXloader, which provides some extras only for Classic.
Historical relation
StockXloader is a successor of Börsladdaren, which was first officially released in November 2001 as version 1.5, and its last version was 2.1.2 in April 2004. To indicate the historical relation to Börsladdaren, the first official version of StockXloader was given the release number 3.0.
What's in the name 'StockXloader'?
The 'X' in 'StockXloader' may either stand for 'exchange' or for 'Mac OS X', or both. The preferred association is: "Stock exchange loader", pronounced "stockexloader".
System Requirements
- Mac OS X version 10.4 (Tiger) or 10.5 (Leopard).
- Tested on Mac OS X up to version 10.5.2, in addition to 10.4.11. Tested on PowerPC and Intel processors.
- Although StockXloader will function also without an installed version of ProTA, it is designed for use with ProTA. The reason StockXloader is made to be able to operate without ProTA is that it makes it possible for you to try out the software before you decide that the combination of ProTA and StockXloader is an excellent choice.
For the actual import of quotes into ProTA to work smoothly, it requires ProTA or ProTA Gold for OS X.
